Plants Database

This website is a resource for botanists in the British Isles. The site draws on the database of the Botanical Society of the British Isles and allows a simple search to identify family, genus and species. The taxonomy follows that used in D H Kent's List of Vascular Plants of the British Isles published by the BSBI. The "Kent numbers" referred to in these pages are those used by Kent to identify family, genus and species (and, sometimes, subspecies).

BRC numbers refer to the identifier allocated by the Biological Records Centre.

Users of the site are invited to submit photographs of plants so that the online database eventually becomes a photographic record aswell as a taxonomic record of our flora. Soon it will also be possible for users to submit descriptions and key identification points for plants, making confirmation of identification easier.

Here are a few of the most recently uploaded photographs to give you a taster of what is on the website.
